James C. Paulson is an American glycobiologist, biochemist, biologist. He is chair of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) and founding director of the National Institutes of Health-funded Consortium for Functional Glycomics. In 1999, he joined the full-time faculty of The Scripps Research Institute. In 2001, he became principal researcher for the Consortium for Functional Glycomics, now an organization with more than 650 participating researchers worldwide. In 2013, he was appointed chair of the institute's Department of Cell and Molecular Biology.
